This is not necessarily a bad album; Bowie's previous effort, Never Let Me Down, contains songs that are worse. And that actually makes it a better album, although with a narrow margin. Let me explain: Black Tie White Noise is so boring and emotionless and such a pain to sit through that I actually would prefer the songs to be really bad, because bad songs at least stir up emotions within the listener. I'd rather listen to bad music than boring; I'd prefer to be angry or disappointed or pretty much anything rather than to be bored. I could have spent the last hour doing something so much more interesting. Like watching paint dry.
